Barely A Glimpse

I can barely catch a glimpse
Of whom you truly are.
If I tried to comprehend,
And then struggled to explain;
I could hardly just begin
To come close to understand.

And yet your eternity I’m sure of,
Though I can’t quite just grasp it yet.
And I’m baffled by your love,
Mercy, kindness, and your grace.

You are righteous requiring justice;
Searching out the hearts of men.
You’re unchanging, firm foundation,
From you comes true righteousness.

Though you’re awesome in perfection,
Absolute without a doubt.
You look down on men with mercy,
Grant forgiveness, sins blot out.

How can one that’s so amazing,
Take thought of one so small as me?
What response can my heart muster?
Only great humility.

You extend your hand providing,
Healing many that are sick.
Giving water to the thirsty,
That their souls will not afflict.

Please forgive my shallow knowledge,
Grant to me the eyes that see.
Accept the lowliest of your servants,
For my heart belong to thee.

Be it simple and even inadequate, I wrote this poem trying to express what was in my heart. My heart belongs to the L-rd. And the more I learn about Him, the more it makes me realize how much I’ve yet to learn. I’m filled with awe toward Him.

"I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more.” Isaiah 43:25

Birkat Hamazon

Some time ago I took it upon myself to teach my kids the Birkat Hamazon. The Birkat Hamazon, is basically the blessing said after meals. This blessing is based on Deuteronomy 8:10 "When you have eaten and are satisfied, you shall bless the LORD your God for the good land which He gave you". Even though this blessing can be read, it is customary to sing it aloud on Shabbat and other special occasions. Well, I had wanted nothing more than to learn to sing it since long ago, but didn't know the melody; until recently that I found a podcast with the blessing which I now have in my ipod. It's so convenient learning it this way because it gives me the freedom to listen at any time I choose. On Friday however, I found this video that I just loved. Here is a way that I think would be perfect for the kids to learn. I'm posting the video here should anyone want to learn it.

What We Sow We'll Surely Reap

We can't but deceive ourselves if we're walking in our sin.
We won’t but reap corruption it’s an inevitable thing.
It is futile if we think that we can get away with sin.
It will take root in our hearts, it will sink so deep within.

We will reap what we have planted, we will reap what we have sown.
You can not get something good, if your only planting thorns.
The laws of sowing and reaping, are what all of us to should know.
Always have been in effect just as history has shown.

Just as sure as we are living and as sure as we can breath,
We can know His Word’s Eternal, it is perfect we can see.
If we doubt it , it’d be foolish, if ignore it even worse.
Trusting in our understanding, is walking in a crooked course.

When remorse then overtakes us, and we feel that we can’t cope.
Then only His Word can save us, In His mercy there is hope.
Consequences won’t be pretty, and we’ll have to live with them.
But if we’re truly repentant, forgiveness will come from Him.

Take time and think today, You must be quick and make haste.
Don’t be so easily deceived, Life is way too short too short to wait.
Turn back now, it’s not too late, to seek His mercy, it is great.
Seek His Mercy, It Is Great!
MJ

With a broken heart I wrote this for my niece, who turned her back on her parents and everything she once believed. I pray it will reach someone who may be finding themselves in the same situation.

The Sweetest Thing

The sweetest thing when I woke up
Smiling at me two pearly whites.
Two bright big eyes staring at me,
You little arms reaching with glee.

Your tiny hands claping with mine
And on my lap you quickly climbed.
I sang to you, such joy within,
And that's the way this day began.
I heard you giggle and I smiled
we played together for a while.
Right on my bed with pillows 'round
You jumped and played and even bounced.
There's so much work waiting for me
Looking around I quickly see.
And though I can't keep playing like this,
The next best thing will be a sis!
She'll play with you and keep you safe
Until the time I take a break.
You'll sit and play with all the boys
Together you will make such noise.
But I'll be listening with care,
While I do work, and do my share.
I'll check on you from time to time,
And I'll make sure that you are fine.
There's one more thing I'd like to share
I want you to be well aware;
Of all the things I get to do,
One of the best is... be with you!

A Prayer For My Son

L-rd I've been so blessed,
Though I don't deserve.
You've brought so much joy,
To my life with whith this son.
From the very first moment,
When I knew he would come.
I felt overjoyed,
To have my first son.

His first steps came quick,
His smile melt my heart.
His words were so sweet,
All right from the start

He is very sincere,
He's terrific to me,
And a true delight,
To be part of his life.

To be fourteen years,
Is no merit of his.
You have been the One,
Giving this gift to him.

And not only to him,
But to us the whole family;
To have him with us,
Growing in wisdom and happily.

But what I do recognize,
Though he can't choose his age,
Is the fact that he does,
Daily choose to obey.

A great brother no doubt ,
Ideal student in deed,
He makes us so proud,
And feel also relief.

We are so grateful L-rd,
You know our hearts well;
And we ask in our parenting,
You help us excel.

Lord give me wisdom to be,
The mother he needs.
He deserves so much more,
I know I fall short.

Help his father and I,
Guide, and teach him your Word.
Help us be good examples,
Such as seldom is heard.

This past June I wrote this poem for my son David right before his fourteenth birthday. His father and I were talking about how blessed we are to have him. In this day and age when it's so unlikely to see teenagers that honor their parents, it's good to see our son maturing and not have to be making the excuse that, "...he's just going through a stage!" It is such a relief to not have to deal with many of the common teenage problems. Praise be to G-d!

"The father of the rigtheous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him. Thy father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that bear thee shall rejoice."
Prov 23:24 & 25

A Call To Repentance

Taken from a blog written a while back.

Awake Oh sleepers from your sleep,
Examine carefully your deeds.
Rememder G-D the blessed one;
Return to Him, Return at once!

Your losing sight of deeper truths,
while waisting time in vain pursuits;
That niether profit, never save -
Abandon now your evil ways.

The Shofar's sounding with all might,
Repent, Awake,and see the light.
Exceedingly it sounds and strong,
Forsake your ways for they are wrong.

Teshuva's urgent to draw nigh,
We must prepare to be His bride.
Repent, Return, and do your part,
And seek the L-RD with humble heart.

Commit yourself, to Him draw near,

The time is now; to this take heed.
Awake Oh sleepers from your sleep!
Awake Oh sleepers from your sleep!

Inspired by the Rosh Hashana theme of repentence, I wrote this poem this past weekend. I pray it motivates others to examine their walk with the Lord and make teshuva!

Couldn't Go To Sleep Tonight

Taken from another blog I wrote a while back.

You have made me and fashioned me,
Giving me life when I had none.
My thirst you quench completely
And I rejoice in thee My G-D.
I have called upon you with all my strength,
For my soul longs for your presence.
Your beauty and your holiness,
Who, Oh who can understand!

When I seek with joy your wisdom,
You satisfy me from above.
You enrich my life and bless it.
How amazing is your love!

At nights like this I cannot sleep
Cannot be still, cannot forget;
All the wonders you have shown me,
Feels like manna is my bread.

L-rd I want to know you better,
Have a closer walk with thee.
I want your name to be glorified,
When others stop and look at me.
How can I share the love you've given:
What can I do SO others may see?
The awsomeness words can't express,
Without your love don't let them be.
How little of you I've come to know,
And yet I can't but be amazed.
The things for us you chose to show,
Your love, your holiness, your grace!
So many things yet hidden,
And others hard to grasp;
Saved for those that are devoted,
That love and seek all that thou hast.
You have made me for a reason.
You have touched my life indeed.
Please don't let me leave this world,
Without helping others find thee.
L-rd I'm thankful for your blessings,
Your love and your saving grace.
And I couldn't go to sleep tonight,
Without writing you at least a phrase.
Because I have a need to praise you;
A great longing deep within.
I am joyous and must thank you,
For your deliverance from sin.
I will praise you my redeemer,
And sing daily from my heart.
The peace and joy within me,
Are things that only you impart.
Teach me to love you sincerely,
Increase my faith as I walk.
May your Word help me see clearly
Open to me when I knock.

There are times like this that I cannot sleep. When my heart is filled with praise, so I decided to take the time last night and put this little poem together, trying to express my feelings. I love my L-rd, Blessed be His Name!
